Description
The Val d'Essonne has a rich geological heritage.
34 million years ago, during the Tertiary era, a warm, shallow sea gradually invaded the Paris Basin. This deposited 60 meters of sands known as "Fontainebleau sands". Around 28 million years ago (end of the Stampian period), the sea retreated for good, giving way to savannah-like continental landscapes. Subsequently, a number of phenomena led to the evolution of the soil and its plant and animal species.
From April 14th to June 14th 2026, the Communauté de Communes du Val d'Essonne, in collaboration with the Réserve naturelle des sites géologiques de l'Essonne (Conseil Départemental de l'Essonne) and the commune of La Ferté-Alais, invite you to the exhibition "30 Millions d'années, un voyage dans le passé", at the Ferme pédagogique de La Grange aux Moines (La Ferté-Alais).
Come and discover the geological treasures and the evolution of the flora and fauna of the Essonne region through this exhibition... Surprises await you!
